New school year, new oral routine: our advice for the whole family

Published on September 03, 2025

Back to school is often synonymous with renewal: new schedules, new resolutions, new energy. It's also the ideal time to (re)establish an effective, gentle and lasting oral hygiene routine, for yourself as well as for your children!

Why? Because a good dental routine isn't just a cleanliness reflex: it's a ritual of prevention, well-being and overall health protection.

Why review your oral routine at the start of the school year?

Returning to work, school, or other activities often leads to changes in routine... and more irregular oral hygiene: brushing too quickly, eating on the go, forgetting to floss. Result: no more plaque, bad breath or sensitivities.

Adopting a new routine from September is the assurance of start on a good footing, in just a few minutes a day.

1. Adopt a more conscious brushing… not a more aggressive one

The “I brush harder when I’m in a hurry” reflex is one of the most common… and most harmful. The key is not intensity, but regularity and gentleness.

At The Smilist, we recommend our 10-bristle ultra-soft polishing toothbrush, perfect for gentle and effective brushing without damaging the enamel or gums!

To remember :

  • 2 brushings per day for 2 minutes
  • Light pressure (your hairs should never be crushed)
  • Circular or gum-to-tooth movements

2. Incorporate a remineralizing toothpaste into your routine

After summer, enamel can be weakened (by ice cream, sodas, stress, etc.). Back to school is therefore the right time to strengthen the mineral barrier of teeth, slowly.

We advise you to integrate the The Smilist Whitening Remineralizing Toothpaste to your routine: ECOCERT certified, Made in France, fluoride-free, it is enriched with minerals and prebiotics to actively strengthen enamel and support the balance of the oral microbiota.

3. Restore balance after intense days

Stress, fast food, reduced salivation: the mouth also suffers from the back-to-school rhythm. Think about rebalance its pH and natural defenses at the end of the day.

The Smilist Bi-Phase Purifying Micro-Oil is a great option to consider at the end of the day. Alcohol-free, it combines a refreshing aqueous phase with an oil phase enriched with prebiotics. It helps gently purify the mouth, hydrates the mucous membranes, and supports the balance of the oral microbiota. A soothing gesture that perfectly complements a gentle and respectful oral routine!

4. Adapt your oral hygiene routine to younger children… and teenagers

Back to school is also a good time to (re)motivate children and pre-teens to adopt a regular and enjoyable dental hygiene routine. At this age, autonomy is strengthened, but a little help is always useful.

Tips:

  • Brushing with music or with a timer
  • Ergonomic, soft and suitable toothbrush
  • Small follow-up rituals or symbolic encouragement

The Smilist treatments are perfectly suited from 12 years old!

5. Take your freshness with you to the office or school

Your mouth can become dry or stuffy throughout the day, especially with stress or eating fast food. A small, discreet gesture can make all the difference.

The Smilist Purifying Mouth Spray is an interesting option: alcohol-free, it moisturizes the mucous membranes, freshens breath and helps maintain the balance of the oral microbiota. Ideal after a coffee or between two appointments.

In summary: the 5 pillars of a good back-to-school dental routine

  • Gentle brushing twice a day
  • A suitable remineralizing toothpaste
  • A balancing mouthwash for the evening
  • An educational routine for children
  • A fresh treatment to slip into your bag

What if this back-to-school season was an opportunity to establish a real wellness routine?

At The Smilist, we believe that the mouth is much more than a place of hygiene: it is a space of balance, prevention and gentlenessAnd that with the right actions and the right care, everyone can transform their dental ritual into a moment for themselves.

Take care of your smile, it goes everywhere with you.
